In your first year of high school, it is important to focus on strong study habits, obtaining good grades, and participating in extra-curricular activities. These activities can be chosen from the many clubs and athletic teams offered at Highland High School or they can include activities offered outside of the high school. We recommend that you take challenging courses so that you will be well prepared for college. All of the grades that you earn from this point on become a part of your permanent record and will, with the exception of the grades in Physical Education, be computed into your Grade Point Average. SEPTEMBER - Schedule changes may take place during the first two weeks of school. If you have a problem with your schedule, make an appointment with your counselor during study hall or lunch or before or after school.
SEPTEMBER-JUNE - Your counselor will meet with you to:
- explain the role of the counselor
- review graduation requirements, including the HHS service learning requirement
- review a sample transcript and resume
- encourage school and community involvement
- explore potential career fields with students by introducing the Career Exploration section of Career Connections, an online Career and College Search tool used by Highland High School.
- Highand High School's School ID is 0364616.
- Highland High School's School Password is H38S0751.
- You will give yourself a username and password when you log in for the first time with your counselor. If you lose your username and/or password your counselor can look it up for you.
FEBRUARY-MARCH - Students will begin the course selection process for next year. The Course Description Guide can be located on the Guidance Department's Main page.
- Students review course selections with their parents.
- Parents sign the course selection form and students return it to the Guidance Department.
APRIL-MAY - Parents will be mailed a copy of the Course Verification sheet, a listing of course selections we have on record for your student for the following year. Please contact the Guidance Office immediately if you notice any errors.
