Today, Thursday, March 19, we were notified that we have a confirmed case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) within our school community. The individual is an adult who has very limited contact with students. We have been in contact with the Ulster County Department of Health (UCDOH) and are waiting for further guidance. This information is very new, but we wanted to be transparent and alert our community as soon as possible. More information will follow tomorrow.
As a result of this news, all of our campuses will be completely closed to all staff on Friday, March 20. The parent pick-up of medications and the school meal deliveries will also need to be canceled.
We expect that county health officials will immediately begin an investigation to determine the contacts that the individual may have had within the school environment and will notify those individuals directly. That investigation will guide the plan determined by the UCDOH in regard to the length of this closure, other necessary precautions, and building disinfecting instructions.
I understand the myriad of emotions that surround this news. I’m sorry I do not have more to share with you at this time. We expect to be in constant contact with county health officials and moving forward will take our guidance from them. We know this is a serious matter of great concern for our families and pledge to keep you informed of any new information that develops. In closing, please continue to practice the measures for preventing the spread of all illness that we have shared in previous communications and reinforce them with your children. Each individual plays an important role in preventing the spread of this illness.
