Good Morning -
Besides Saturday, that was a really beautiful weekend. I really hope you all enjoyed it.
In your journal, use paragraph form to write about two different things you did this weekend. Remember, a paragraph is only about one thing. A paragraph is indented, has a topic sentence, and interesting detail to support the topic sentence. Please don't make a list of all the things you did. That's not the writing I would like to see.
When you are done, please edit your work. After editing, go to the Seesaw site, take a picture of your writing, then use the microphone tool to read it.

Aunt Beatrice - (Bee uh trish)
Last week, we read that Jessie had got up very early to go to her first day of dog walk training with Wes. She had a bit of a tough day. On her first walk with Angel, she got dragged around, and when Angel finally stopped, he almost got Jessie bitten by German Sheperd named Bruno. After having a tough time with Angel, Wes would only let her leash the dogs, and pick up their business.
After Jessie got dropped off, she ran into Max, the boy she had played soccer with, and who had thought she was a girl. He gave her her soccer ball and they said they'd hang out the next day.
When Jessie left for work that first day, she never told her Aunt Beatrice where she was going.
In the Rules of the Ruff, read from the top of page 45 and finish chapter 5 on page 49. After reading, answer:
1. Who is Aunt Beatrice?
2. What secret did Jessie's dad unveil to her?
Afternoon -
After lunch or before bed, read for 15-20 minutes.
Science -
We have been learning about Fish. One of the more interesting fish is the Shark. There are many different species (kinds) of sharks.
Click on the link below to read about Sharks. Read, sections 1, 4, 6, 7, and in section 9 just view the names and photos of the different species of sharks.

Math -
Over the last month and a half, we have learned a lot about fractions. We just have a bit more to go, then we will get on to Decimals.
We have been learning how to add and subtract fractions. We have learned that adding and subtracting fractions with Like Denominators can be kind of easy. For example, if i have the fractions 25/100 + 25/100 = I know I just add the numerators and because the denominator is the same, it stays the same so 25/100 + 25/100 = 50/100. Then we reduce that to 1/2 ... (crazy that 50/100 is equivalent to 1/2).
We learned that adding and subtracting fractions with Unlike Denominators is a little more difficult. For example, if I have 1/2 + 1/5 = ... I know that I must find a Common Denominator, or make the denominators the same. We did this by multiplying the 2 denominators together. So 2 x 5 = 10. So 10 becomes our common denominator. Then we must change our numerators. So 2 in 1/2 goes into 10, five times, and 5 in 1/5 goes into 10, 2 times. So my new numerators are 5 and 2. And 1/2 + 1/5 becomes 5/10 + 2/10 = 7/10
Try these: (if you can, reduce to Simplest form):
2/5 + 1/2 =
3/5 - 1/2 =
3/4 + 1/2 =
Today's lesson is a bit more complicated. In adding and subtracting fractions, you want to find the Least Common Denominator.
For example, if I have the fractions 1/4 + 1/2 = What we learned to do when you have Unlike Denominators is to multiply the denominators together. If I multiply 4 x 2, I'll get 8. But 8 is NOT the Least Common Denominator.
The Least Common Denominator is the number that both the Unlike Denominators divide into equally. So in the problem 1/4 + 1/2 ...We want to find the smallest or least number that both the 4 and the 2 divide into equally. That number is 4. 4 fits into 4 equally once. And 2 fits into 4 equally twice...
So 4 becomes our Least Common Denominator...not 8.
The problem should now look like this:
1/4 + 1/2 =
1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4
Click on the link below to learn how to find the Least Common Denominator:

Then, find the Least Common Denominator and add these:
1. 1/3 + 1/6 =
2. 1/2 + 3/8 =
