I've lived in the Hudson Valley for the last 13 years, although I grew up in Maryland, Ohio, and Connecticut to parents who immigrated from Germany.  I studied abroad in Ecuador during college and developed a love for Spanish and travel.  After my first few years of teaching in Baltimore, MD, I lived and worked abroad, teaching in Japan, Kenya, and Germany.  My husband and I then returned to the US and have been in the Hudson Valley ever since.  I spent ten years working as an environmental educator, and went back to school to complete a science degree where I studied the invertebrates that live on different Hudson River shorelines.  I love teaching and learning, and I am currently working on a PhD in science education.  I have two kids and a dog, and live in the city of Poughkeepsie.  In my free time I do volunteer work for several organizations and I love spending time outside with my family or in my garden.
