Dear Parents and Guardians,

My name is Sarah Hathaway, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal at Highland Middle School. Many of you may already know me from my role as the Interim Assistant Principal for most of last year, and I am thrilled to continue serving this wonderful school community in this capacity.

I have a strong background in education, particularly in special education and reading instruction. Prior to stepping into the assistant principal role, I served as a Special Education Reading Specialist at Highland Elementary School since 2020. Before that, I spent over a decade in Raleigh, NC, where I worked extensively in special education and served as an MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) coach. These experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of student needs and a passion for fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

In addition to my professional background, I am also a parent of a middle school student so I can empathize with the joys and challenges that come with navigating education in today's world! It is my commitment to ensure that every student at our school receives the best possible educational experience. My goal is to collaborate closely with staff, parents, and community members. I am committed to promoting a positive school culture where all students feel valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.
