2020 Budget & Voter Information

    The 2020 Budget Vote and Board of Education Elections will be held this year by absentee ballot. In-person drop-off at the Middle School will be available through June 9 at 5 PM. The Governor has extended the deadline for returning the votes by mail to 5:00 pm on June 16. 

    If you are a qualified voter and not registered with the Ulster County Board of Elections, you may register with them or complete the Affidavit here. Further information will be sent via mail and please continue to check on this webpage for updated information.     Due to expected pandemic-related delays within the postal system, voters are strongly encouraged to mail their ballots as soon as possible. Votes received after 5 PM on June 16 cannot be counted. Concern over possible mailing delays has prompted further steps to ensure voters are able to engage in the voting process. A supervised, ballot drop-off box will be made available at the Highland Middle School entrance, located at 71 Main Street, Highland, from 8 AM to 5 PM on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9.
    Concerns About Voter Privacy
    We are aware that residents are concerned about privacy and whether those who are counting votes will be able to ascertain how specific residents voted. Please be advised that the District will follow all procedures under the Education Law for canvassing and counting votes. When the election inspectors open the oath envelope containing the voter’s name and address, the ballot is removed and separated from the oath envelope while remaining folded. When the election inspectors then go to count the ballots, they will have no way of knowing whose ballot they are reviewing. Read more about the ballot collecting/opening process here.
