Mission Statement

In a safe and caring learning environment, we inspire students to make connections, think critically, and become productive global citizens who create legacies that make our community proud.

About the Community

Located in the historic Hudson Valley, the Highland Central School District serves the Town of Lloyd, a close-knit community of approximately 11,000 residents. Nestled in southern Ulster County near the Hudson River, the District is just 90 minutes north of New York City.

This largely residential area, dotted with working farms and apple orchards, offers easy access to cultural and educational centers such as Albany and NYC via the New York State Thruway and Metro-North Railway. Nearby institutions include Vassar College, Marist College, SUNY New Paltz, and the Culinary Institute of America.

The region is rich with historical and cultural landmarks, including West Point, Hyde Park, and the Walkway Over the Hudson. Numerous local committees and youth organizations offer a variety of activities and events for families, fostering strong community bonds and enriching the quality of life for residents.

About the School District

The Highland Central School District, in partnership with the community, is dedicated to fostering independent, lifelong learners through quality education and support. Each school has an active Parent/Teacher Association, and the High School includes students in its Parent/Teacher/Student Association. A seven-member Board of Education, supported by a non-voting student representative from the senior class, helps to ensure that community voices are represented.

The District values strong community relationships, partnering with organizations such as the Highland Rotary Club, along with numerous local businesses, emergency responders, and neighboring towns. Our students are active contributors, giving back through food drives, volunteering with local organizations, and participating in a variety of community events.
