HHS Students Learn About the Dangers of Impaired Driving

Highland High School students received an important lesson on the dangers of impaired driving on October 24, coinciding with the kickoff to Homecoming weekend. Representatives from the Ulster County STOP-DWI program visited the school to deliver an interactive presentation designed to raise awareness about the serious risks of driving under the influence.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to experience a realistic driving simulator and use specialized “drunk driving” goggles, which demonstrated how alcohol impairs coordination, reaction time, and judgment behind the wheel.

The Ulster County STOP-DWI program is part of a larger statewide initiative dedicated to preventing impaired driving through education, enforcement, and community awareness. By encouraging young drivers to plan ahead, make responsible choices, and look out for one another, the program aims to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on New York’s roadways.

Highland Central School District extends its appreciation to STOP-DWI for providing this valuable learning experience. Together, we can all do our part to keep our roads—and our community—safe.
