High School Rock Concert Showcases Student Talent

Highland High School (HHS)’s Rock Concert Volume 7 took place on January 15 and once again proved why it is one of the most unique and highly anticipated events of the year. Blending high-energy performances with authentic, real-world learning opportunities, the concert highlighted the depth of talent and dedication within the HHS music program.

The evening featured an exciting and diverse repertoire, ranging from classic rock favorites by Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones to hits by Whitney Houston and Gloria Gaynor, along with selections from the Broadway musical Hamilton. Students from the Concert Band, Choir, and Jazz Ensemble took the stage, delivering polished performances that kept the audience engaged throughout the night.

Adding to the professional feel of the concert, students performed alongside guest artists Aubrey Flick (voice) and Todd Mihan (guitar), as well as Highland alumni currently studying music in college. Members of Highland’s own faculty band also performed, creating a collaborative experience that connected students with professionals and mentors in the field.

Beyond the performances, the Rock Concert served as a valuable educational experience. Students played an integral role behind the scenes, gaining hands-on experience in audio engineering, lighting design, budgeting, sponsorship outreach, marketing, and front-of-house operations such as ticket sales and program design. This immersive approach allows students to explore the many career pathways within the music and entertainment industries.

This event continues to stand out as a hallmark of the HHS music program and its largest annual fundraiser, supporting student opportunities throughout the year. The success of the event reflects the dedication of the students, music faculty, alumni, guest artists, sponsors, and the wider Highland community.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the concert an unforgettable evening celebrating music, learning, and collaboration!
