High School Students Recognized for Outstanding Musical Achievement

The Highland High School Music Department is pleased to announce that four talented students have been recognized by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) for their exceptional musicianship.

Scarlet Lovell has been selected to perform with the prestigious NYSSMA All-State Jazz Ensemble on vibraphone this December in Rochester. Only 20 students from across New York State are chosen for this elite ensemble—an extraordinary honor that reflects Scarlett’s remarkable skill and dedication.

In addition, Jude VanKleeck (drums) and Gisella Shaut (string bass) have been named alternates for the 2025 NYSSMA All-State Jazz Ensemble. Gisella was also selected as an alternate for the All-State Symphonic Orchestra on string bass, and Ava McNamee was chosen as an alternate for the All-State Mixed Chorus.

The Highland Music Department congratulates all four students for their outstanding achievements and commitment to musical excellence.
