    Dear Families,

Governor Cuomo has announced that all New York State schools will remain closed until April 29. As you know, we have been preparing for the likelihood of an extended closure of schools since the onset of the pandemic.

At this morning’s New York State Board of Regents meeting, Chancellor Betty Rosa also announced that steps were being taken to cancel the June NYS Regents exams, although the details have not been released yet. Once we have received this information, we will let our students and their families know what the exam cancellation means for them.

We will also continue to supply five days of breakfasts and lunches during the closure for families who need them. Distribution takes place on Wednesdays from 9 AM to - 12 PM by the cafeteria at Highland High School.

We hope that most of our students and families are finding some degree of familiarity with our distance learning plan. We understand that adapting to online learning at home is not an easy task, especially given the situation around us. It’s okay to not be perfect in these trying times. Please just do the best you can and understand that the “best you can” will look different for everyone. Remember, you are not alone. The Highland Huskies are a pack, and we will get through this together.

We are proud of the resilience and determination that our school community has shown in the face of these formidable challenges. As always, the safety of our students, staff, and families remains a top priority. We encourage everyone to continue to protect their health and well-being by taking all recommended precautions and following all issued stay-at-home and social distancing orders.

Please tell your children that we miss them and that we are looking forward to being able to see them in person again soon. Please also check the Covid-19 section of our website at www.highland-k12.org/covid19 frequently for important information and updates.
