Vax to School Initiative
October l, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope that this letter finds you and your students healthy and doing well as our new school year gets underway. As you know, one of our major goals this year is to have as many of our students attend school in-person in the safest way possible. Preventing illness and limiting the number of quarantines necessary are essential components in achieving this goal. Vaccinations are one tool available to help with both.
A close contact in a school setting, according to the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is defined as a student who has been within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 1 5 minutes or more during the course of a 24-hour period. However, the NYS DOH and the CDC agree that that distance may be reduced to 3 feet if all parties were correctly wearing well-fitting masks. NYS Department of Health regulations require that all students identified as close contacts, except those who are fully vaccinated, must quarantine.
New York State has launched a "Vax to School" initiative to make vaccinations convenient for those who wish to participate. Highland High School will be available as a vaccination site on November 14 from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Below is a list of other vaccine clinics that will be held in local high schools through "Vax to School" program. You can access vaccinations at any of the sites below. Registration is necessary (see details below). Children aged 12 and up are eligible currently.
Of course, if you have any questions about the vaccine, please consult your family physician or visit the Ulster County's FAQs page: https://covid19.ulstercountyny.gov/faqs/
