Roadwork in Highland May Create Some Minor Delays

September 2022

Dear Highland Central School District Parents/Guardians,

The Transportation Department has been notified by the Town of Lloyd Highway Department that work associated with the Tillson Avenue/Vineyard Avenue construction project is tentatively scheduled to begin in September. As a result, Tillson Avenue will be limited to one-way traffic going from Route 9W to Vineyard Avenue. All traffic coming from Vineyard Avenue to Tillson Avenue will be detoured onto Milton Avenue.

Our school bus drivers who do not have stops located within the road work area have been informed of the construction and are being directed to follow all necessary detours. Any delays are expected to be minimal.

There are two bus routes with stops on Tillson Avenue that will be most directly affected. These are: Route P (Elementary School) and Route L (Middle/High School). Both of these routes will follow the new traffic pattern and will access Tillson Avenue from Route 9W.

It is important to note that bus stops WILL NOT change; however, some morning and afternoon delays are anticipated.

This new traffic pattern is expected to be in effect for some time, based on how the construction project progresses. We will remain in close contact with the Highway Department and will continue to keep families informed of any updates.

As always, our top priorities are to transport your children safely and as efficiently as possible. We appreciate your trust and patience. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at (845) 691-1040, or email me at cmekulik@highland-k12.org.

Sincerely,

Cathy Mekulik, Transportation Department
