Local Veterans Visit Highland Elementary School

Grade 2 students at Highland Elementary School learned firsthand the significance of the Veterans Day holiday from a few special guests on November 10.

A group of local veterans, led by John Fraino—a Vietnam veteran—visited classrooms to provide information about their branch of the military, share their experiences serving in the armed forces, and answer any questions the young Huskies had.

Questions ranged from “Why do we recite the Pledge of Allegiance?” to “What does the American flag symbolize?” to “Why do we celebrate Veterans Day?”

Students also had the opportunity to share songs and projects they had prepared, and “salute” the brave veterans to show appreciation for their service to our country.
