Attention, Highland families: Please be aware that portions of Vineyard Avenue, Tillson Avenue, and Toc Drive will be closed for roadwork beginning on Monday, March 27. As a result, the following detours and delays are anticipated:

• Vineyard Avenue detours will allow northbound traffic into the Hamlet and, as a result, morning bus routes are expected to have very minimal delays. Southbound detours (out of the Hamlet) will direct traffic from Vineyard Avenue to Milton Avenue to Route 9W South to Chapel Hill Road and back to Vineyard Avenue. Due to this detour, afternoon bus routes will likely experience significant delays.
  
  
• In addition, Tillson Avenue will be closed at Vineyard Avenue. Southbound traffic will be directed to travel down Tillson Avenue from Route 9W and will loop through Smith Terrace to return to Route 9W. Bus routes that will be affected are P, L, and I.
  
  
• Finally, Toc Drive will be closed at Vineyard Avenue and can be accessed via a detour onto Brescia Boulevard to Hilltop Avenue to Tano Drive to Toc Drive. The following bus routes will be affected by this detour: D, K, O, P2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, and 11.

These detours are subject to change. We will continue to keep families notified of any updates in the future. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

With the impending road closure, both ways, of Vineyard Ave (Rt44/55) @ Toc and Tillson, please note the following bus route changes:

 

High School/Middle School-AM

Approximately 15 minutes earlier 

Route K

Route P2

Route D

 

Elementary-AM

Approximately 10 minutes earlier

Route H

Route L

Route N

Route P

 

Any routes that use Vineyard Ave. for access to the Middle School and Elementary School will follow the detours with minimum delays. Within the first week, there may be changes to times.

 

For an understanding of the detours, please see the following that was shared with us by the Town's engineers:

 

1. Tillson Ave. 

To remain closed, except for Local "residential traffic" only. 

CHGE starting Gas Main relocation work planned for Monday 4/3. Retaining wall construction will continue. The earthwork on West end of Tillson Ave. will also continue. 

 

2. Rt 44/55 (Vineyard Ave.)

The large Virtual Message Signs on Route 44/55 (Vineyard Ave) will continue noting April 10, 2023 as the planned road closure date. 

The signs will change to read "Vineyard Ave. (Rt 44/55) Closed" starting 4/10/2023.

The closure will occur and work will start as the temporary traffic light at Chapel Hill Rd. and Rt 44/55 is installed.

 

3. Toc Drive: 

Access from Rt 44/55 (Vineyard Ave.) remains closed. Continue following Toc Dr. Detour signs in place.
