Representatives from the Rondout Valley Growers Association returned to Highland Elementary School on January 25 for another edition of its popular Farm-to-School program, “The Share Table.” This ongoing school initiative aims to educate children about farming while encouraging them to explore the tastes and wonders of locally grown food.
During their lunch periods, Highland students in Grades 3-5 participated in a food tasting session featuring this month’s homegrown delight: sweet potatoes! On the menu was sweet potato curry soup, which was made using potatoes from Tributary Farm in High Falls.
This “Share Table" event marked the second such experience in Highland this year, and the fourth overall. Following the tasting, the Huskies were encouraged to share their thoughts by placing stickers on a provided poster, categorizing their opinions about the food. The Highland Central School District takes pride in offering students the chance to explore new ingredients from local vendors, all while ensuring a nutritious, free-of-charge breakfast and lunch each day.
Thank you to these local partners for the delicious and educational experience!
