Former professional football player turned inspirational speaker, Shamiel Gary, returned to Highland High School (HHS) on November 8 to remind students to live their lives with purpose and passion. Gary, who first visited Highland back in 2023, spoke at two grade-level assemblies that were sponsored by the HHS PTSA.
The star athlete, who played on teams including the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots, shared how he overcame injuries and setbacks—both personally and professionally—to build a life filled with gratitude and success. He encouraged students to be present in each moment and to strive to show up every day as the best version of themselves.
Offering advice on how the Huskies can achieve their goals, Gary said that as long as they work hard and believe in themselves, they can make anything happen. He also recommended that students avoid distractions and surround themselves with the right people. Before departing for the day, Gary signed autographs, visited classrooms, and even gave pep talks to a few of our sports teams that had big competitions that evening.
